Code for Sustainable Homes: In-house Assessments

Clague now has its own in-house Code Assessor to advise on sustainability issues and the Code for Sustainable Homes. Architect David Capon has now passed his code exams at the Building Research Establishment to provide the service, building on the practice’s robust environmental policy that has now been in place for many years.

David Capon is now a qualified assessor as well as a qualified architect with substantial experience. His degree in energy studies is also critical preparation for advising on ENE1 Carbon Emissions and ENE7 Low and Zero Carbon Technology issues.

Most housing schemes now have a requirement for affordable housing and need to achieve code level three if they are to receive government funding. Next year it is probable that the Building Regulations will be revised to incorporate code requirements and that more government bodies will be looking at even higher levels as a requirement.

At present Clague has excellent relations with several code assessors but the value of having advice and the necessary software on tap in the early stages of design will be invaluable.
