Coastal delight from Clague
Kent-based architectural practice, Clague has designed a dramatic detached home, Sea House, situated in a prominent coastal location in a conservation area at Littlestone-on-Sea, near New Romney. Its contemporary design, making use of natural materials, most obviously its red cedar cladding and dramatic natural slate mono pitched ‘floating roofs’, creates a notable landmark along the coast road. The detailed design was carried out by MPA Architecture.
The key to the design lies in the decision to create the plan with two wings, one perpendicular to the other, separated by a glazed double height circulation area to allow light deep into the house. This feature is complemented by the innovative roof arrangement that uses opposing mono pitch roofs that break at the ridge.
