Clague gets green light for BSF Kent project
Kent-based contractor Provian Construction, working with Clague as architects, is starting work on a £17million refurbishment of Herne Bay High School as part of the largest school building scheme in Europe, worth an estimated £1.8billion.
The project at Herne Bay High School entails some demolition, elements of new build and substantial elements of remodelling and refurbishment. At the centre of the school will be a major new indoor courtyard or ‘heart’ which will act as a multi-functional space around which will be sited refurbished teaching and IT areas and new dining and cafe facilities.
Provian Construction Managing Director, Roger Maycock, said. “We are playing our role in the transformation of the county’s schools. As well as improving the standard of education environments, BSF also represents a great opportunity for Kent based companies such as Provian. This, in turn, will no doubt help the local economy.”
In keeping with the school's specialist status, a new sports hall with associated activity hall will be constructed with space for future expansion. The retained buildings will be refurbished and the whole campus will benefit from updated IT facilities providing students, staff an community users with a virtual learning environment.
