Housing both private and public healthcare in one building and servicing local care homes and centres, as well as individual members of the public.
The premises is open to the community 365 days a year from 8am to 8pm and facilities include a Minor Injuries Unit (since upgraded to an Urgent Treatment Centre operated by Whitstable Medical practice), an X-ray Unit, continuous DVT diagnosis and treatment service. There is also a Consultant led fracture clinic and over 20,000 patients from the local community are treated per year.
The timber clad design of the building takes inspiration from the local environment, in particular the nearby breakwaters and the beach huts that dot the nearby coastal landscape.
The form of the building is characterised by a bespoke timber façade system, with projecting vertical cedar fins incorporated which are designed to shade against glare from the low west sun and mitigate overheating, but also act as a focal point for the building’s distinctive aesthetic, creating a play of shadows on the façade.
