KINGS HILL

The Mixed-Use community on the former WW2 Airfield at Kings Hill, West Malling has been an ongoing success for over 30 years.

Our practice has been involved in the masterplanning, the detailed design and the delivery of many of the largest and most popular areas within Kings Hill including Kings Hill Park, Milton Lane, Eden Way, Shoesmith Lane and The Crescent. We have also designed the Sports Pavillion and many of the clusters of Affordable Homes required under the original Planning Consent.

Set in a landscaped environment of almost 800 acres. The residential neighbourhoods now consisting of approx 2,300 new homes, are linked by a network of footpaths and cycle ways. Just a short walk or cycle ride reaches the Leisure Centre, the golf club, the two schools or the thriving new village centre with its range of good shops, cafés, restaurants, a public house, and its supermarket.

The proposed scheme for the Guildhall Quarter has been developed through a significant analysis of the existing buildings, their condition and their relationship with Canterbury’s world heritage site.

In addition, outline consent was secured for two million sq ft of office and business space, of which almost 800,000 sq ft is currently occupied by just over 100 businesses. Kings Hill also includes areas of clustered affordable housing of the highest quality, which blends with the private housing and offers interesting architectural form and a pleasant place for people to live.
Milton Lane (aka Lacuna) which is a medium-high density development of over 200 new homes just south of the Village Centre won an RIBA Housing Design Awards Special Prize after its completion in 2004.
