The Elms Farm Barn project involved the conversion of a Grade I listed barn and adjoining obsolete milking parlour into a scheme for office and commercial use. As the building is listed, the renovation had to be undertaken with sympathy and care.
Following negotiations with Thanet District Council, planning, listed building consent and building regulations were obtained for a high-spec serviced conversion.
Our proposal included the conservation and repair of the oak frame, as well as the insertion of mezzanine floors to create lettable space that could be offered as four separate offices, or as a whole.
In contrast to the historic oak frame, new floors, staircases and other insertions were added, creating a diverse and charming aesthetic.
The project was carried out by barn conversion specialists Cox Restorations, based in Charing, Kent, and undertaken on a speculative basis – the client was able to secure a single tenant for the whole complex.
