HMS Ganges

This is a mixed use scheme at HMS Ganges, a former naval training base that proposes to retain and convert a number of existing buildings within the site including; Nelson Hall, Vincent House, The Swimming Pool, Hawkes 1, 2 and 3, Anson, Administration and the Signals and Theatre Buildings, whilst constructing some 285 new private, affordable and retirement dwellings along with a small commercial centre comprising a retail outlet, serviced offices and medical and health facilities.

The site itself features many constraints including working within the newly designated Shotley Gate Conservation Area.

The scheme aims to identify the importance of the parade ground as a potential centre for Shotley Gate and to test and reinforce the historical character of the site whilst providing a new setting and use for the existing buildings. It aims to deliver a balanced residential development which provides social housing, retirement dwellings and private housing that allow for family growth, in a style and character that reflects and enhances the character of the local area.
