The modernisation and extension of the house was designed to reorder and improve the property, making it more in keeping with the grandeur of its surroundings.
The accommodation has been carefully arranged over three storeys, with a fresh basement level cut into the existing, steeply sloping site, which has created a new storey ‘within’ the historic garden. A new roof links the two sides of the dwelling, creating a unified first floor and a more fluid aesthetic.
The modern extension appears as a lightweight glass box, finished with a reserved palette of materials so as not to overpower the existing property. Sitting on the garden walls, the extension features open plan living spaces and panoramic views, whilst the existing building is home to a selection of gracefully designed ‘private’ spaces that perfectly complement the new design.
