In considering the brief it was concluded that the existing inappropriate uPVC extensions should be removed, returning the building to its original form as a starting point for the design.
Removal of the conservatory would give the opportunity to provide a more permanent extension to provide the accommodation required by the brief and would also allow ease of access to the rear garden area without passing through the dwelling.
The extension is conceived as a contemporary addition with mono-pitched and flat roofs, finished in render, aluminium and glass. The aesthetic has been applied to the existing dwelling by replacing the shallow hipped roof over the living room with an over-sailing flat roof with aluminium detailing. A similar roof has been provided over the main entrance as a canopy and the front facade rendered to create a new exciting and integrated image for the dwelling.
