Strode Park

The Strode Park Foundation required alterations to its main building: a 19th century Italiante mansion set in 18 acres of beautiful garden.

The brief allowed for internal alterations to the old building as well as the construction of a new wing, the whole affording accommodation for 22 people at any one time, most of whom stay between 6-12 months following physical trauma.

Because of the nature of the facility, the main concern for Clague’s design team was to create a relaxing and nurturing environment, which was achieved through a proposal that sweeps in an elegant curve around the northern edge of the site.

Each of the bedrooms on the outer, north elevation boasts a balcony that opens up the room to the exterior through the use of lightweight natural materials. These features, coupled with high ceilings that are open to rafters, plentiful windows and fully glazed doors, allow natural light to flood the individual rooms, creating a serene and beautiful ambiance.
