The extension doubles the accommodation of the original home, while preserving the spirit and archaeology of the walled garden. The new accommodation has been designed to fill one of the margins between the old vine house and the walls of the courtyard garden.
The design comprises two vernacular two-storey pavilions in which the guest and master bedrooms are situated, with a modern single-storey lead-roofed connecting range to create a new living room. The ground floor of the existing house and new conservatory provide the entrance, study and new kitchen of unique design. The interior details are exciting, for the most part practical, but with artistic flourishes. Positive steps to provide for environmental sustainability include rainwater harvesting and solar heating schemes.
