Situated in a sensitive location on the Estuary of the River Dart, this house involved the conversion and extension of a stone former laundry building on a sloping site that commands breath taking views over the surrounding area, known as the English Riviera.
A new roof links the two sides of the dwelling, creating a unified first floor and a more fluid composition.
The new extension appears is articulated as a lightweight glass box, enjoying clerestory glazing and finished with a restrained palette of materials so as not to overpower the existing property. Appearing to sit upon the landscaped garden walls, the extension features open plan living spaces and panoramic views, whilst the footprint of the existing stone building is home to a selection of elegantly designed ‘private’ spaces that perfectly complement the new spaces.
Working closely with a talented interior designer and landscape architect, the home now enjoys an extensive terraced garden which steps down to the waters of the Dart estuary.
