The existing site has a steep topography which presented a number of design challenges. To help overcome these, the house has been cut into the slope of the land with the main living accommodation situated on the top floor with a large open plan living area and two balconies making the most of the stunning views over the wooded valley.
The design of the house has been influenced by mid-century American Ranch homes, with large overhanging mono-pitched roofs that provide solar shading in the summer and shelter in the winter.
