CONYER QUAY

This waterside development of 19 new-build homes is on the site of a former boat-builders yard at Conyer, near Teynham in Kent.

It comprises a mix of houses and apartments imaginatively designed to reflect the traditional boat and barge-building activities of the area. The predominant material externally is natural timber weatherboarding, stained white or black to reflect the Kentish vernacular whilst the roofs are in either clay tiles or slates. Particular features include long sculptural balconies overlooking the waterside constructed in timber and picked out in a strong and expressive red colour to contrast with the remainder of the building volumes. Internally there are many split-level spaces with individually designed gardens & decks.

The accommodation is arranged over five blocks picturesquely arranged and orientated along the eastern bank of Conyer Creek.

The homes are a mix of three storey terraced houses, one block of apartments and a single detached house. Feedback from residents on the design of the development
